| Bats of the genus Artibeus are among the most important seed dispersers in early successional forests. We report observations on the foraging behavior of Artibeus lituratus in Pedra da Cebola Municipal Park, an urban park in the city of Vitória, Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. Observations were made during six consecutive days (April 1st to April 6th, 2006). Three mist-nets were opened each night close to a Maclura tinctoria tree (Moraceae), remaining open from 18:00 to 22:00, totaling four hours per night, and 24 hours of sampling effort. We observed two peaks of feeding activity at the tree, one between 18:20 and 19:30, and a second one at 21:00. | Nos últimos meses está em efervescente discussão uma proposta para que um novo código florestal (Projeto de Lei nº 1876/99) substitua o vigente instaurado por meio da Lei Federal nº 4771/65 e modificado recentemente por Medidas Provisórias. Este novo código proposto, todavia, propõe alterações legais que devem afetar negativamente as populações naturais de anfíbios do Brasil. O declínio de anfíbios deve gerar impactos negativos tanto para a população (humana) nacional, como para a comunidade internacional. | We applied complementary survey techniques to obtain a baseline species list of mid and large bodied mammals in Núcleo Caraguatatuba, Serra do Mar State park, Brazil. Between May and September 2011 we surveyed the community of mid and large bodied mammals using diurnal line transect census (212.4 km), camera-traps (223.2 camera-trap days) and track-stations (478 track-station days). A total of 18 species were recorded from 14 families in eight orders. | Most of the scyphozoans and cubozoans recorded for the Brazilian coast are presumed to be distributed over the entire coastline, but little information on precise records is available. This paper presents the first published records for the Ceará state (northeastern region) of the cubozoan Chiropsalmus quadrumanus, and the scyphozoans Chrysaora lactea, Linuche unguiculata (polyp), Lychnorhiza lucerna, Nausithoe sp. (polyp), Phyllorhiza punctata, and Stomolophus meleagris. The medusoid species have been known by local fishermen and non-specialists for a long time in the area. |

| Abstract Galls are neo-formed plant structures induced by species-specific interaction between an inducing organism and a host plant. Lycophytes and ferns are two distinct plant lineages historically lumped together as pteridophytes. A number of authors suggest low gall frequency in lycophytes and ferns, compared to angiosperms. This study aimed at compiling an updated overview of fern galls in Brazil, providing information on hosts, gall-inducing organisms and associated fauna. | O Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto Ribeira (PETAR) faz parte do contínuo ecológico de Paranapiacaba, um dos trechos mais bem conservados de Floresta Atlântica no estado de São Paulo. Entretanto, há pouquíssimos estudos sobre a composição florística e a estrutura da vegetação dessa área, que apresenta peculiaridades como a localização sobre regiões cársticas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi mapear a vegetação e caracterizar a flora das diferentes fitofisionomias existentes no PETAR, a fim de fornecer subsídios para a elaboração do seu plano de manejo. | Abstract: The implementation of private areas focused on conservation of species and habitats, combined with REDD+ policies, has become an important ally for biodiversity conservation, expanding the conservation areas of the most varied habitats, covering key groups such as large mammals, which are extremely important for the maintenance of ecosystem services. In the upper region of the Purus River in Acre, Brazil, an inventory was carried out using camera-traps, of medium and large mammals community in a private REDD+ area, known as the Purus Project.
